The 24-10 defeat Luke Fickell and the University of Wisconsin football team suffered at home to No. 3 Ohio State was tough but also somewhat encouraging about the Badgers overall direction as a program.

However, the loss became even more difficult to stomach when we later found out the star running back, Braelon Allen, wouldn’t return to the game after suffering a lower-body injury on a shovel pass at Ohio State’s 1-yard line just before halftime.

To add insult to injury, Allen was later seen by reporters wearing a walking boot on the Badgers sideline during the second half. The Fond du Lac native finished the game with 10 carries for 50 yards with two fumbles, one of which was lost.

On Monday morning, during his weekly radio appearance on 1070 The Game, Coach Fickell provided an update on his star running back.

In a recent update on the health of Wisconsin football running back Braelon Allen, provided by head coach Luke Fickell during his weekly radio appearance, it was revealed that Allen’s condition remains uncertain.

Fickell conveyed, “I don’t know. He was out there [at practice] last night, but he couldn’t do much of anything.”

The team remains vigilant and will closely monitor Allen’s progress throughout the week to determine his availability for Indiana and moving forward. This update underscores the significance of Allen’s injury and the need to assess his recovery before making any definitive statements about his status for upcoming games.

Reading between the lines here, this wasn’t super encouraging to hear. Especially when Allen is someone with a well-documented injury history — and very few capable options behind him to help manage his workload.

Should he miss the Wisconsin football vs. Indiana road game this coming weekend, the Badgers would have to rely on the pairing of Jackson Acker and Cade Yacamelli, both of whom played different positions a year ago.

This is a situation that we’ll continue to monitor throughout the week, but all things considered, this feels like an injury that could linger. On the bright side, not immediately being ruled out is also a positive for his long-term health — which is what truly matters.
