It’s hard to believe that it has been just over a year since Wisconsin football head coach Luke Fickell hired Phil Longo.

So many Badgers fans were skeptical of the hire, but not me. I was beyond excited. You see the Air Raid offense has been a daily part of my life for the better part of a decade. I’m always looking for new tips, schemes, and technique. Coach Longo is an open coach willing to share his knowledge with the community and has been a great resource.

So, to bring my favorite scheme together with my favorite team is like Christmas morning for this old ball coach.

But it was the questions, comments, and concerns from the fan base that compelled me to start sharing what I’ve learned about the Air Raid and football in general. The Dairy Raid was born.

Now, just 13 months later, I can’t believe how far the content has come. The audience has grown, but now it’s time to take it to the next level and with the good people at BadgerNotes beyond me we are just beginning!

So, who am I, and why are you sitting here reading this now?

First and foremost, I am a Wisconsin boy born and raised. I have been fortunate enough that for the past 22 years I have been a full time football coach. I began my coaching journey on a whim, but it has carried me all over the world and to my current home here in Denmark.

I’ve held many job titles over the years and worked in every offensive/defensive system known to man, but for the past 11 years, I have dedicated myself to the Air Raid offense.

I’ve watched the offense evolve from the mad pirate himself, Mike Leach (who had his first HC job coaching in Pori, Finland, btw), to its modern incarnation under current Wisconsin football OC Phil Longo.

I love the beautiful simplicity of the system, and I love how easily it can be installed while still being effective. It’s this beautiful simplicity I hope to pass on to Wisconsin Badgers fans in hopes they can gain a better understanding of not only the offense but football in general to enhance their game day experience.

What is the Dairy Raid?

As my tagline explains, my goal is to provide commentary and analysis of the Wisconsin football team’s new offensive identity with the goal of closing the gap between the sideline/meeting rooms and your living room.

There is so much going on on the football field, but when you know where to look for the little details that make the team click, the game really shrinks, and the details become easy to digest. Many analysts try to bog us fans down with useless (and often incorrect) buzz words and commentary to make them feel smarter than they are.

I know what I am, but more importantly, I have spent the last 20+ years asking grown men to make this complicated sport their hobby, so I need to break it down in an easy-to-digest and hopefully entertaining fashion.

That same coaching style is what I hope to bring to the Dairy Raid.

Where Can You Find Me?

Beyond the work you’ll find from me here on BadgerNotes.com, you’ll be able to find my work on many different outlets.

At my YouTube channel, the Dairy Raid, you’ll find breakdowns of every game from the 2023 season, along with player breakdowns, scheme analyses, and editorial commentary.

If the written word is more your style then you can head to where it all started on Substack. And of course, if you’re looking for live commentary, interactions with fans and troll sites, and to hear me extol the virtues of the 11:00 kickoff, you can follow me on Twitter @thedairyraid.

2024 promises to be full of lots of great content as we look forward to Year 2 of the Dairy Raid in Madison.

We may be in the off-season, but with spring ball fast approaching with the promise of new films to break down and new storylines to comment on. I look forward to bringing my brand of Wisconsin football analysis to the Badger Notes family, and I can’t wait to get started!
