The Wisconsin football team has officially signed defensive lineman, Dillan Johnson. The addition of Johnson will help the Badgers fill a glaring need on the defensive side of the ball. Depth on the line was already thin, but losing Rodas Johnson to the transfer portal made it even thinner. Johnson is a big get for the Badgers.

Commitment to Wisconsin Football

The Wisconsin football team was in the running up to the end of Johnson’s recruitment. The Badgers were thought to be in the driver’s seat for his recruitment until he suddenly committed to Northwestern.

Johnson de-committed from the Wildcats after head coach Pat Fitzgerald was fired after allegations of hazing within the program were brought during the summer. Johnson flipped to the Badgers the very same day.

Even though he isn’t a huge 300+ pound defensive tackle, he can still anchor the line because he has a lot of strength and understands leverage.

247Sports’ Allen Trieu says Johnson  “plays with a great motor. Is very active with feet and hands and will run down plays away from him. Shows the ability to explode off the ball and has a good repertoire of moves from a push-pull to a swim move. Tenacity, technique, and physical strength all help to project him as an impact player at the Power Five level and a potential eventual NFL prospect.”

Johnson has a wrestling background, which is something a lot of coaches, especially Luke Fickell, love in a defensive lineman. In addition to playing football, Johnson will also be wrestling for the Wisconsin wrestling team.
