The Wisconsin football team faces a significant transition, with Braedyn Locke taking the reins as the starting quarterback due to an injury Tanner Mordecai suffered against Iowa that required surgery.

While Locke’s experience is limited, the Badgers are banking on his strong work ethic to help him adapt quickly.

Locke, who had just one college appearance (Georgia Southern) before stepping into the starting role, acknowledges the added pressure but finds comfort in thorough preparation. He is known for his dedication to studying the game, spending countless hours in the office, breaking down film, and learning from past games.

Head Coach Luke Fickell attests to Locke’s relentless work ethic, and according to reports, his teammates emphasize his unwavering commitment to improvement.

Wisconsin Football Coaches Envision Status Quo on Offense

Despite the quarterback change, the Wisconsin football team aims to maintain its offensive strategy. Braedyn Locke was put in an unfavorable spot, but his performance against Iowa demonstrated his potential.

While Locke showed promise with a few productive drives, his inexperience led to late turnovers that affected the game’s outcome.

Locke’s journey to Wisconsin stems from his choice to embrace the challenge and transition to a new offensive system.

Despite limited playing time at the college level, he is determined to make the most of this opportunity and contribute to the team’s success. His selection of Wisconsin football coming out of the transfer portal was influenced by the honesty and upfront approach of offensive coordinator Phil Longo, who shares Locke’s passion for the game.

It also helps that the Wisconsin Badgers now run a similar system to the one he ran in high school and under Mike Leach at Mississippi State.

Wrapping Things Up

With his younger brother, Landyn Locke, also committed to the Wisconsin football program in the 2025 recruiting class, it’s clear that the Locke family believes in the coaching staff’s vision.

While the transition to becoming the starting quarterback may have arrived sooner than expected, it presents an opportunity for Locke to prove himself and lead the Badgers during the back half of the season.
