Luke Fickell and the University of Wisconsin football team still have one week remaining in the regular season — but that isn’t stopping the Badgers from exploring roster upgrades with one eye on 2024.

Nicholas Laboy, a Cornell wide receiver, entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer on Nov. 8 and, according to a report from On3 sports, has already heard from a host of Power 5 programs.

Since entering the transfer portal, Laboy has garnered attention from several collegiate programs. Notably, schools such as Maryland, Duke, Wisconsin, Pitt, Indiana, Wyoming, West Virginia, Georgia State, and Miami (Ohio) have contacted him.

Wisconsin Football Exploring Transfer Portal Options at Wide Receiver

The Wisconsin Badgers overhauled their offensive scheme in year one under head coach Luke Fickell and first-year coordinator Phil Longo. The pairing brought the Dairy Raid offense to Madison, a change that hasn’t translated the way many had hoped on the field.

Could a few more hand-picked players in the transfer portal speed up that Wisconsin football team’s transition?

Over the past two seasons, Nicholas Laboy has registered 83 receptions, totaling 1,074 yards, and scoring four touchdowns on an impressive 12.9 yards per catch. He finished fourth in the Ivy League in receiving this past season with 705 yards — and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 195 pounds, Laboy could bring veteran experience and depth to the Badgers wide receiver position that underwhelmed in 2023.

As it stands, Wisconsin football is expected to return top wideouts Will Pauling, CJ Williams, Bryson Green, Skyler Bell, and even young talents like Vinny Anthony and Quincy Burroughs. But the conclusion of the season could lead to a lot of roster turnover, and it’s encouraging to see the coaching staff already on the prowl for potential upgrades.
