Things haven’t been all sunshine and roses for Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin football team as of late — but there is plenty of reason for optimism moving forward, thanks to a couple of big wins on the recruiting trail.

One of the biggest wins in the 2024 cycle came when four-star offensive tackle Kevin Heywood out of Royersford, Pennsylvania, committed to the Badgers in June. As it stands, he is the third highest-rated recruit in the class, behind only defensive lineman Dillan Johnson and running back Dilin Jones — both of whom are four-star prospects ranked in the top 150.

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive tackle put together a phenomenal senior season and recently accepted an invitation to play in the All-American Bowl — and will represent the Wisconsin football program.

The Badgers’ offensive line play has taken steps backward in the last couple of seasons — that’s why the Wisconsin football coaching staff made a concerted effort to bring in a large class on the recruiting trail.

Headlined by Kevin Heywood, Wisconsin will also welcome three-star OT Derek Jensen from Arrowhead (WI), OG Emerson Mandell from Minnesota, OG Ryan Cory from Pennsylvania, and OT Colin Cubberly from New York.

Hopefully, better days on the offensive line are ahead — and the development of this recruiting class specifically will play a pivotal role in the Badgers starting to run their offense the way they’d like with the proper personnel.
