Wisconsin basketball returns to the Kohl Center Thursday evening after a disappointing 98-73 loss at Arizona. Before the Wisconsin Badgers (7-3, 1-0 Big Ten) get into the thick of conference play, they will host two mid-major opponents. The first is the matchup with the Jacksonville State Gamecocks.

Wisconsin Basketball vs Jacksonville State Time and TV Channel

Notably, the tip time for this game was moved up an hour. According to a release, Wisconsin Athletics requested the Big Ten Network move the men’s basketball game to limit potential overlap with the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament semifinal match that the Badgers will be playing on Thursday evening. That volleyball match is scheduled to begin at 8:30 PM CST and will air on ESPN.

Wisconsin Badgers to Host Jacksonville State in First-Ever Matchup

Wisconsin basketball has never played Jacksonville State (4-6, 0-0 Conference USA). UW head coach Greg Gard has a slow-tempo friend in Gamecocks head coach Ray Harper. JSU currently ranks 351st in adjusted tempo, according to KenPom. For those keeping track at home, only 11 of the 362 teams in Division 1 play at a slower pace than JSU. Harper is in his eighth season in Jacksonville, Alabama, and has not led a team with an adjusted tempo that ranked within the top 200 since 2019-20.

Wisconsin has won 40 consecutive non-conference home games against mid-major programs. In recent seasons, however, Wisconsin basketball has played with its food in these games. The Badgers had a pair of close calls at home against mid-major opponents last season and another pair in the 2021-22 season.
