Wisconsin Basketball to Host Recruit Daniel Jacobsen on Official Visit

The Wisconsin basketball program is gearing up for a significant official recruiting visit as they welcome 4-star recruit Daniel Jacobsen to campus beginning October 13th. Jacobsen, a towering 7-foot-2 center weighing in at 215 pounds, brings a unique blend of skills to the court that has caught the attention of several top programs.

Known for his shot-blocking prowess and an impressive outside game for a player of his size, Jacobsen recently made a move to Brewster Academy for his final season (he intends to reclassify to the 2024 class). Before that, he spent three seasons honing his skills in New Mexico.

His recruiting profile reflects his growing reputation, with scholarship offers from notable schools such as Illinois, Minnesota, Creighton, Clemson, New Mexico, Purdue, Tulsa, Xavier, and the University of Wisconsin.

In the 247Sports Composite rankings, Jacobsen is currently rated as the No. 164 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, the 24th-ranked center nationally, and the No. 2 player in New Hampshire. His transfer to Brewster Academy signifies a shift back to the Northeast, as he originally hails from Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin.

Why Wisconsin Basketball Getting an Official Visit Is Important

At local media day, we learned that Badgers starting center Steven Crowl would be using his extra year of eligibility and reclassifying to be a junior. That’s important because that means the Badgers, beginning in 2025, will have ample playing time up for grabs at the “five.”

Along with NIL opportunities and a history of player development, playing time speaks to recruits, and Wisconsin basketball has an intriguing package to offer someone like Daniel Jacobsen. 

Jacobsen’s imposing size and disruptive shot-blocking ability in the paint make him a formidable presence on the defensive end. With the potential for further physical development, he could become an even more dominant force defensively. On the offensive side, he’s already a reliable low-post scorer, boasting a high release point, soft touch, and commendable footwork. Despite his size, Jacobsen moves fluidly on the court and excels at going up to secure high passes and re-establish position.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Jacobsen’s game is his improved face-up ability. He has showcased the versatility of stepping out beyond the arc and knocking down three-pointers, a skill highly coveted by the Wisconsin basketball coaching staff on the recruiting trail. 

I’m told Greg Gard and his staff are aware of Jacobsen’s intention to reclassify to 2024.

As Jacobsen embarks on his official visit to Madison, Badgers fans are eager to see how Wisconsin can position itself for the services of a fast-rising recruit that could develop into the future cornerstone of the team’s frontcourt.
