Wisconsin Basketball Signee Caps Off Prep Career With State Title
A Badgers signee took home some hardware.
The 2023-24 high school basketball season has come to a close around the US, and a Wisconsin basketball signee took home some hardware in his final season.
Daniel Freitag and top-seeded Breck High School won the 2A Minnesota State Championship, forcing 20 turnovers en route to a 76-72 victory over Lake City High School.

Wisconsin Basketball Signee Daniel Freitag Earns Some Hardware
Freitag had a season to remember in his senior campaign. The Badgers signee led Breck to a 31-1 overall record, logging regular-season averages of 26.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. He was named First-Team All-Metro for the second consecutive year and was among the finalists for the Minnesota Mr. Basketball award, but he came up short.
Freitag recorded 33 points, eight rebounds, and five steals in the state championship game while shooting 11-of-20 from the field. Freitag was the deciding variable for Breck, as he scored six points in crunch time when Lake City was able to bring it within one.

Since signing with Wisconsin basketball, Freitag has seen a jump in the recruiting rankings. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound guard vaulted up to the No. 10 point guard in the country in the updated composite rankings while also earning the No. 113 national rank and the No. 2 rank in Minnesota.
Freitag will soon make his way to Madison as the Badgers look to rebound after another early exit in the NCAA Tournament. He may have a larger role than previously anticipated in his freshman year, as Wisconsin will be without sophomore guard Connor Essegian next season after he entered the transfer portal.
Wisconsin basketball has no shortage of guard help, with Chucky Hepburn, Max Klesmit, John Blackwell, and Kamari McGee all expected to be back in 2024, but the addition of Freitag should provide a strong boost to the rotation.
