As several former Wisconsin Badgers football players made their marks at the NFL Combine, a handful of teams began to touch base and explore possible fits.

Braelon Allen elected to bypass athletic testing drills in Indianapolis as he will complete a workout at Wisconsin’s upcoming Pro Day. However, he did participate in interviews and drills.

The former Badger had formal meetings with multiple teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and the Buffalo Bills, but his most intriguing interview came with his home team, the Green Bay Packers.

Could Wisconsin Football Star RB Braelon Allen Stay Home?

This news isn’t very surprising, especially considering the recent news that the Packers are unlikely to re-sign power back AJ Dillon. If Green Bay is looking for someone to fill that bruiser role, there isn’t a running back in this draft class that fits that mold better than Allen.

The former Badger has been linked to the Packers in recent mock drafts. He’s projected as a second or third-round pick, and Chad Reuter, who covers the draft for NFL.com, mocked Allen to land in Green Bay at pick No. 58

At the NFL Combine, Allen participated in the broad jump, vertical leap, and bench press. He logged a 32″ vert, a 9-foot-9 broad jump, and 26 bench reps. His vertical and broad jump were in the bottom 15 among running backs in Indianapolis, but his bench press was second among all tailbacks, trailing only Michigan’s Blake Corum.

Allen declared for the NFL Draft after three seasons with the Wisconsin football program with a very accomplished resume. The former Badgers star logged career totals of 3,494 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns on 597 carries, as well as 49 receptions for 275 receiving yards. Allen finished No. 9 in career rushing yards and had the most games with 100+ rushing yards and a touchdown among all active Power 5 running backs, hitting those marks 17 times in three years.

The Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin native has expressed interest in staying home and playing for the Packers. Should he be available in the second or third rounds, it will be interesting to see if Green Bay chooses to keep him inside state lines or prioritize other positions of need.
