Wisconsin Football QB Thinks Badgers ‘Program is in Good Hands’
The Badgers QB thinks Luke Fickell will have Wisconsin playing for national championships very soon.
When he took the head coaching job for the Wisconsin Badgers football program last November, Luke Fickell brought big expectations.
During the offseason, which saw high-profile transfer portal additions brought in while overhauling the offensive and defensive schemes, fans were ready to reclaim the Big Ten West in its final season of existence.
Yet, Wisconsin fell short of those preseason expectations and finished 7-6 in the first year under coach Fickell, leaving some people uncertain about the program’s future with conference expansion looming.
Wisconsin Football QB Tanner Mordecai Believes in Luke Fickell
Following a 35-31 loss against No. 13 LSU in the ReliaQuest Bowl, Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Tanner Mordecai and head coach Luke Fickell showed mutual admiration for one another. It’s clear the two became very close despite only spending one season together.
In his post-game press conference, coach Fickell became visibly emotional when talking about Mordecai, who served as an invaluable leader for the Wisconsin football team this past season, and said the Texas native didn’t treat his time in Madison like a rental.
Talking with reporters in the locker room after the game, Mordecai praised Fickell and said the program had a bright future ahead with him at the helm.
“I know a lot of people on social media like to drag coach Fick’s name,” Mordecai said. “This program is in good hands; I’ll be watching; they’ll be competing for National Championships very soon. The sky is the limit.”

With an offseason to regroup and bring in talent that better fits the schemes he wants to run, it’ll be interesting to see how the Wisconsin Badgers football team rebounds under Luke Fickell in 2024.
