Greg Gard and the Wisconsin Badgers basketball coaching staff has checked in on another big man who entered the transfer portal.

Luke Chaney reported that Wisconsin basketball has reached out to Notre Dame transfer forward Carey Booth — who will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next stop. Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Illinois, Florida, Stanford, and many others are also involved.

Booth played just one season under Micah Shrewsberry and averaged 6.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in 19 minutes per game for the Fighting Irish. He shot 39.1% from the field and 29.7% from beyond the arc, along with leading the team in blocked shots with 21.

According to the composite recruiting rankings, Booth was rated as the No. 59 overall player in the 2023 class and the No. 12 power forward.

It’s no secret that the Wisconsin basketball squad is facing a frontcourt depth challenge following Tyler Wahl’s departure due to graduation and Gus Yalden’s entry into the transfer portal.

While players like Markus Ilver, Carter Gilmore, Nolan Winter, and Chris Hodges remain on the roster, none has shown enough to suggest they can step into a starting role for the Badgers alongside center Steven Crowl.

Booth makes for an interesting transfer portal target for the Badgers. He is an incredibly athletic option who has the upside to check two major boxes for Wisconsin basketball should things materialize. He can stretch the floor — even though he had a rough season from the field, and he can protect on the interior, which the Badgers did very little of this season.

Wisconsin basketball coaches have also been in contact with several other frontcourt options in the portal this offseason, like David Skogman, William Kyle III, and Brandon Angel.
