The Wisconsin football program is among the top choices for a priority running back target in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Four-star tailback John Forster announced his top five on social media, listing the Badgers alongside Rutgers, Illinois, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia.

According to the composite rankings, Forster is the No. 323 player in the nation, the No. 27 RB, and the No. 12 player in New Jersey.

Forster picked up 19 offers before trimming his list. Some notable schools that missed the cut include Penn State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Syracuse, Tennessee, Duke, and UConn.

The New Jersey native visited UW in April during a spring practice session. He’s currently scheduled for an official visit that’s set to begin on June 14th. Forster will also make stops with other top schools Illinois, Rutgers, and West Virginia as official visit season kicks off.

Running backs coach Devon Spalding has done the heavy lifting in the four-star tailback’s recruitment, and he’s kept the Badgers near the top of Forster’s list.

“My relationship with coach Spalding has been really good,” Forster told Badgernotes. “He’s had many great running backs, which shows how well he develops his players.”

After taking three running backs in 2024, Wisconsin is expected to take just one in the 2025 cycle. Forster is among UW’s top running back targets, and the Badgers are also pursuing Javin Gordon and Byron Louis, who both have official visits locked in.

The Wisconsin football program currently holds 11 total commitments, which comes in as the No. 17 recruiting class in the country per the composite rankings.
