Wisconsin Badgers Wrestling Land Impact 2024 Commitment from 2x Illinois State Champion

Wisconsin Badgers Wrestling program landed a commitment from a big time prospect in the 2024 class –  two-time IHSA Illinois state champion from Grayslake Central (Illinois) Matthew ‘Matty” Jens!

Wisconsin Badgers Tale of the Tape

Matty Jens is a very talented wrestler and joins 2025 commit Tyson Waughtel as Illinois prep prospects to commit to the Wisconsin Badgers in just the last few months. Jens repeated as an Illinois state champion and did it in two different weight classes. After winning in 2023 at 182LB (2023), he moved down to 175LB and won another title.

It is incredibly impressive to win a state title – let alone two – but to win the title by a 16-1 technical fall is bananas!

Jens is a certified DAWG!

Jens, the two-sport stud at Grayslake Central chose the Wisconsin Badgers as the future he wanted to pursue. The Lake County (Illinois) Wrestler of the Year has an impressive ability to be a pit bull on the mat and that style is very exciting for wrestling fans.

The senior from Illinois shows a relentless pursuit of scoring and has a gas tank. Never seeming to be out of breath – he will continue to push the pace and wear his guy down.

I am very excited about Jens entering the Wisconsin Badgers wrestling room. It’s unclear where he may fall in the weight classes but the future at 185LB and 197LB is open for the taking.

Regardless of weight class, one thing is clear –  Matty Jens is a great fit for the Wisconsin Badgers wrestling program!
