The Wisconsin football program added its 18th commitment to the 2025 recruiting class on. Thursday, as four-star linebacker Mason Posa announced his commitment to UW.

The New Mexico native took to social media to make it official.

Here’s a look at the newest addition to the 2025 class and what stands out.

Wisconsin Badgers Commit Mason Posa: On the Recruiting Trail

According to the composite rankings, Posa is the No. 268 player in the country, the No. 31 LB, and the No. 1 player in New Mexico.

Posa fielded offers from 21 programs before committing to Wisconsin, with schools such as Alabama, Oregon, USC, Washington, Texas A&M, Nebraska, TCU, Oklahoma State, and many others extending scholarships.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker included Wisconsin in his top three alongside Oregon and Texas A&M just days before his trip to Madison. Mike Tressel, Posa’s primary recruiter, was able to shut his recruitment down before his other planned trips.

Posa is now the second inside linebacker commit in the 2025 cycle, joining in-state standout Cooper Catalano.

Wisconsin Football Commit Mason Posa: Scouting Report

In his junior season at La Cueva High School, Posa recorded 133 tackles, 21.0 TFLs, nine sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. It’s also worth noting that Posa is a standout wrestler, winning two New Mexico state championships in his freshman and sophomore years.

Posa is as perfect as a fit in Mike Tressel’s defense as they come. Not only does he have top-shelf athleticism, but he also offers some versatility, taking snaps at inside linebacker, outside linebacker, and safety in his junior year.

Posa plays fast, but you don’t see him get out of control too often. He has the quick burst off the edge to blow up plays in the backfield, the lateral quickness and coverage ability to lock down a zone, and the closing speed to stop plays from developing.

With his quickness and physicality, Posa is a tough player to get hands on. His strength allows him to shed block attempts easily, and he has the ranginess to where he is seemingly always involved in the play. He doesn’t take long to get in the mix; it’s read and react quickly for the four-star linebacker.

Posa projects as an inside linebacker at the next level, but he’s going to be a player that will get extended run in multiple spots. He’ll be an interesting chess piece to the Badgers defense with his range and physical nature as an inside linebacker and his ability to get downhill when lined up on the edge.

Overall, UW is getting a high-effort, dynamic, and versatile linebacker in Posa. If he’s able to build off his highly productive junior year, Posa could be in the mix for early reps when he makes his way to Madison.

With Posa’s verbal pledge, the Wisconsin football program holds 18 commitments in the 2025 class, which currently ranks as the No. 13 recruiting class in the country.
