The Badgers are looking to land recruiting staffer from Notre Dame for a prominent role.

When Luke Fickell took over the Wisconsin football program in January of 2023, he brought with him a very talented recruiting staff that immediately started recruiting at a level that Badger fans hadn’t seen for a while under former head coach, Paul Chryst.

Now, that’s not to say Chryst couldn’t recruit. He and his staff brought in some of the top classes in recent memory, including the 2021 class which is the highest-ranked class in Wisconsin football history during the internet recruiting rankings era. But he followed that up with the No. 44 class in a year that the state of Wisconsin had multiple 4-star recruits and ended up with just one.

But when Fickell came to Madison, there was immediately more juice in their recruiting attack. Things were exciting to follow. Granted, some of that was a lot of turnover and the staff hitting the transfer portal hard. Things were heating up.

A big part of that was Max Stienecker and Pat Lambert, the pair of recruiting aces Fickell had with him at Cincinnati. The duo is one of the well-documented reason that the Wisconsin football team is having success on the recruiting trail. Lambert has the title of Director of Recruiting, while Stienecker is the Director of Player Personnel.

In a report from footballscoop.com, the Badgers are eyeing Notre Dame recruiting staffer Carter Auman for the Director of Player Personnel role.

The first thought on everyone’s mind is what is going on with Stienecker, who currently holds that title? It would certainly be a hit to the recruiting department to lose one of their top staffers.

Right now there is no official word on where Stienecker will end up, but this news doesn’t necessarily mean he will be gone. A different role within the program, presumable a promotion, seems likely.

For Wisconsin football fans, the hope is this is a case of the rich getting richer than finding a replacement for one of the more talented recruiters in the country.
