One of the most productive and prolific players in Wisconsin football history is being recognized as one of the best in college football history.

Montee Ball, a running back for the Badgers from 2009-2012 has been listed on the ballot for the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame class.

There are 77 former Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players and coaches on the ballot for the 2025 class. Ball is the lone Wisconsin football player to appear on the ballot this year.

In order to qualify for the College Football Hall of Fame, a player needs to be a First-Team All-American while in college. Montee Ball accomplished that in back-to-back years in 2011 and 2012.

In 2011, Ball had 1,923 rushing yards and an astounding 33 rushing touchdowns. He also added 306 receiving yards and six touchdown receptions, helping lead the Wisconsin football team to an 11-3 record and a Big Ten Championship. That year he led the FBS in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and total touchdowns. He finished fourth in the Heisman Award voting behind Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck, and Trent Richardson.

In 2012, he continued putting up big numbers. He ran for 1,830 yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground en route to winning the 2012 Doak Walker Award and another First-Team All-American award.

After four years with the Wisconsin football team, Ball is at or near the top of many of the major rushing records for the Badgers. He is third in all-time rushing yards (5,140), trailing Ron Dayne and Melvin Gordon. He is the Badgers’ all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (77) and total touchdowns (83).

The announcement for the 2025 class will be made early in 2025, so Montee Ball and Wisconsin football fans will have to wait until then to find out if the former Badger back is headed to the College Football Hall of Fame.
