The Wisconsin football program came up short in the battle for a top running back target in the 2025 recruiting class.

Javin Gordon, a three-star tailback, took to social media on Monday to announce his commitment to Duke.

According to the 247Sports rankings, Gordon is the No. 91 running back in the 2025 class and the No. 111 player in Georgia.

Wisconsin jumped into the mix in April after running backs coach Devon Spalding extended an offer. Gordon was scheduled for an official visit this coming weekend with the Badgers, which would have been his first stop in Madison. He also had an official visit scheduled with Georgia Tech on June 14th.

Things moved quickly between Gordon and Duke as the Blue Devils extended an offer on May 18th. The Georgia native quickly locked in an official visit for May 31st and committed shortly after.

In his junior season at Stephens County High School, the Stephens County standout logged 1,635 yards and 23 touchdowns on 274 carries while also adding 19 receptions for 273 yards and two touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.

With Gordon headed to Durham, the Badgers will pivot to other top targets such as Byron Louis, who is scheduled for an official visit this weekend, and John Forster, who included UW in his top five at the end of May.

After taking three tailbacks in the 2024 cycle, Wisconsin is expected to take just one running back this time around.

Off the heels of a big opening official visit weekend, the Wisconsin football program holds 14 commitments in the 2025 cycle, which currently stands as the No. 17 class in the nation per the composite rankings.
