Former Wisconsin football fullback Alec Ingold is an anomaly in a sport that’s beginning to phase out his position. However, his play on the field gave the Miami Dolphins no choice but to provide him with a long-term home.

With the regular season just a week away, the Dolphins have secured the services of former Badgers fullback Alec Ingold with a lucrative three-year contract extension valued at up to $17.2 million, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

This remarkable deal now positions Ingold as the highest-paid fullback in the AFC, surpassing Patrick Ricard, while placing him second only to Kyle Juszczyk of the San Francisco 49ers in total earnings among NFL fullbacks.

Ingold, now 27, initially joined the Dolphins during the previous offseason under a two-year agreement worth $6.5 million. During his inaugural season in South Florida, Ingold made a significant impact, playing a career-high 418 snaps, according to PFF.

In 2022, Ingold registered six carries for eight yards, one touchdown, and 15 receptions for 105 yards while being a core special teams member.

Not too shabby for a Wisconsin football player who entered the NFL as a UDFA in 2019.
