During a team meeting, the University of Wisconsin football coaching staff delivered a heartwarming surprise to walk-on wide receiver Haakon Anderson by awarding him a scholarship for his final season.
Badgers position coach Kenny Guiton made the announcement, assisted by fellow wideout Bryson Green. Green presented Anderson, a redshirt senior, with his “papers” recognizing him for his invaluable contributions to the team.
“Let’s put him on them papers, fellas.” 🙌

Coach Guiton praised Anderson’s commitment and leadership earlier this spring, saying, “I’ll give a shout out to my guy Hawk. I mean, he is a guy that does everything, I mean, everything that you ask him to do. And he stepped up, and I think his leadership part of it as well is really good.”
Wisconsin Football Awards Haakon Anderson a Scholarship
Anderson has demonstrated athletic and academic prowess throughout his time with the Wisconsin football team. Achieving Academic All-Big Ten honors three years running from 2021 to 2023, Anderson has showcased his dedication to excellence both on and off the field.
During the 2023 season, the Verona native participated in all 13 games, primarily on special teams, and earned his second varsity letter. Per Pro Football Focus, Anderson finished with a 74.4 special teams grade. That’s considered high quality by their grading metric.
He marked a personal milestone by catching his first career pass for eight yards against Georgia Southern on September 16 and added two tackles as a core special teamer as well.
Anderson, often hailed as the best-blocking receiver on the Wisconsin football team, has continued to improve throughout his career. In 2022, he played in all 13 games, making contributions on special teams, which included two tackles and a 13-yard kickoff return against Michigan State.
Anderson’s steady development and valuable leadership presence in the wide receiver room underscore his importance to the Wisconsin Badgers football program. Anderson’s newly awarded scholarship is a testament to his hard work and the high regard coaches and teammates hold him in.
