The Wisconsin football program added an in-state specialist to the 2025 class on Wednesday afternoon.

Erik Schmidt, a Milwaukee native, has committed to Luke Fickell and the Badgers.

The Marquette University High School standout is rated as the No. 1 punter and the No. 8 kicker in the nation in the 2025 recruiting class per Kohl’s Kicking.

Schmidt chose UW over a PWO offer from Michigan and full scholarships from Missouri, Notre Dame, and Boston College. Wisconsin was the first school to extend a preferred walk-on offer to the Milwaukee native.

Spencer Rymiszewski and Matt Mitchell were Schmidt’s main points of contact throughout his recruitment. Schmidt made a return trip to Madison on an official visit during the weekend of June 14th. He caught up with Badgernotes after the visit, stating that the message from the staff was that they wanted an elite specialist from the state of Wisconsin. Just a few weeks after the visit, the Badgers get their guy.

The Wisconsin football program currently holds the No. 13 recruiting class in the nation per the composite rankings.
