Wisconsin Badgers Wrestling Olympic Update and International Promise

Wisconsin Badgers Wrestling

The Wisconsin Badgers Wrestling program has current and former wrestlers participating on the international and national stage. Some look to make their 2024 Olympic dreams come true and some are fighting to make a name in the U20 circuits.

Wisconsin Badgers Assistant Coach Seth Gross

Seth Gross competed in the Olympic team trials this spring. Coach Gross wrestled in the 65 KG Senior freestyle bracket and was the No.8 seed. He fell to Alec Pantaleo (Cliff Keen Wrestling Club), secured a dominant victory over Kaleb Larkin (Scarlet Knights Wrestling Club), and fell to Cornell great, Nahshon Garrett (Lehigh Valley Wrestling Club) to end his hopes of Paris in 2024.

Assistant Coach Seth Gross has recently took a role to be a coach for the Wisconsin Regional Training Center (Wisconsin RTC).

Congrats to Seth on the additional role helping wrestlers chase their dreams!

Wisconsin Badgers 197LB Braxton Amos

Braxton Amos entered the Olympic trials as the No.2 seed in the 97 KG bracket for Greco-Roman before an injury default. This was very disappointing because he undoubtedly worked so hard to get to that point. I’m confident that he will come back stronger than before and make a run at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

I am excited to see what happens with his career as signs point to him coming back to Wisconsin for his final collegiate season. With Penn State’s four-time NCAA Champion Aaron Brooks exhausting his college eligibility – the 197LB weight class is wide open for the taking.

There will be a new champion at 197LB – why not Braxton Amos?!

Former Wisconsin Badgers 149LB Austin Gomez

The 2022 Big Ten Champion for Wisconsin at 149LB — Austin Gomez qualified on behalf of the Mexican National team for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and will wrestle in the 65 KG weight class.

Congrats to Austin for his qualification – Badger Nation is behind you. Go win the whole dang thing!

Wisconsin Badgers Youth Show International Promise

Freshman Julian George secured the U20 Freestyle Championship at the 2024 Eliminatorio Nacional Libre! He will be in Peru to compete for the Pan-American Games in July.

Freshman Zan Fugitt earned third place in the U20 Greco-Roman World Team Trials in the 60KG bracket.

Recently signed 197LB via the transfer portal, Massoma Endene, is the U23 Freestyle National Champion at 97 KG.

Other Badgers competing in the U20 World Trials in Las Vegas were Royce Nilo (70 KG) and Luke Condon (86 KG).
