Wisconsin Badgers true freshman Julian George recently won first place in the 2024 Eliminatorio Nacional Libre! George wrestled freestyle in the 70KG bracket and went 3-0 to earn the title!

Julian George, by way of Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey, ran through his fellow competition and showed what he is capable of. Winning his matches 10-0, 12-1, and 13-2 en route to his championship. The U20 Champion will compete again July 11-13 in Lima, Peru as part of the 2024 Pan-American Games.

This great improvement not only speaks to the talent that George possesses but the development from Wisconsin Badgers coaching staff. In 2022 George competed in the same U20 tournament and finished 5th with a 2-2 record in Jordan. He followed that up in 2023 with a second place finish in the U20 tournament in Chile.

That’s a long winded way for me to say – this young fella keeps getting better and better and is ascending quickly!

Wisconsin Badgers 149LB Dilemma

This is going to make for a very intriguing offseason to see what Head Coach Chris Bono will want to do in the 149LB class. Incumbent and two-time NCAA qualifier Joseph Zargo has occupied that spot almost the entirety of the season. Will Julian George unseat him or will Coach Bono have to get creative with lineups to get both out there in the same duals?

This offseason is heating up and should make for some great competition in the wrestling room.
