Badger Notes is set to remember our legends in an 8-part summer series that will honor and highlight Wisconsin Badgers wrestling standouts from the past and showcase their accomplishments not only to the Badgers program – but also their contributions to the sport of wrestling.

Wisconsin Badgers Legend Andrew Howe: 2009 – 2012

Andrew Howe, by way of Cedar Lake, Indiana, was one of the best wrestlers in the Barry Davis era at Wisconsin. The Indiana native wrestled for three seasons at Wisconsin and was the 165LB Big Ten Champion each year. During Howe’s three year stint with the Badgers he never finished worse than third at the NCAA Tournament and won the NCAA Championship en route to three straight All-American honors.

After three remarkable seasons with the Wisconsin Badgers, Howe transferred to Oklahoma for a redshirt season and his senior season. Despite not wrestling for the Badgers his senior year and taking a year out of his collegiate career for a redshirt – Howe earned his fourth All-American honor at Oklahoma with a runner-up finish in the 174LB weight class at the 2013 NCAA Championships. After Andrew Howe finished his collegiate career he promptly joined the Oklahoma Sooner coaching staff in 2014.

Howe wasn’t just a decorated folk style collegiate wrestler – he impressed on the worlds stage by winning the 2010 U.S. Open Freestyle Championship. The former Badger was also the 2009 Junior World bronze medalist, and was a finalist in both the 2012 and 2016 at Olympic trials.

Andrew Howe was a Wisconsin Badgers wrestling legend and he had an incredible run during his three years in Madison.
