2028 In-State QB Loaded with Potential Camps with Wisconsin Football

2028 QB JJ Chapman hasn’t even taken a high school snap, but is already on the Badger’s radar.

Wisconsin football offensive coordinator Phil Longo is wasting no time looking for his QB of the future, and I mean way in the future.

JJ Chapman (Oak Creek, WI), hasn’t even thrown a pass in high school yet but attended Wisconsin’s camp this week. He had a chance to throw in front of the Wisconsin coaching staff and work with some of the current Wisconsin football players.

Chapman took the time to chat with BadgerNotes about his experience at the Wisconsin football camp and his recruitment.

2028 QB JJ Chapman Talks Wisconsin Football Recruitment

Despite being an incoming high school freshman, Chapman performed well in front of coaches and had the opportunity to talk with the coaching staff a bit before and after the camp.

“I was able to connect with Coach Longo and a few others during warm-ups,” Chapman told BadgerNotes. “Throughout the camp, I worked closely with Tyler Van Dyke, while under the guidance of Coach Longo. After camp, they asked me to stick around. My mom and I had the opportunity to talk with Coach Lee Rose and Coach Longo. We discussed the upcoming season and my goals.”

The camp wasn’t the quarterback’s first time visiting the Wisconsin football team. He was in attendance for practice earlier this spring and will likely be back in the near future.

“I was fortunate to visit for spring practice back in March. Every opportunity to be back there is something that I will never take for granted. I definitely plan to be back in the fall for a gameday visit!”

It’s extremely early in his recruitment, so you won’t find him on recruiting sites with any stars — yet. But given his list of camp invites, you can already tell he will be getting national attention in the near future. He has visit invites from Wisconsin football, Alabama, Minnesota, Iowa State, Kansas, and more. He even has a Division I offer from Toledo after camping with the Rockets in May.

An eighth-grade Wisconsin kid getting a Division I offer is quite the feat.  “I was told that eighth graders in the state of Wisconsin don’t get offers. I love to defy the odds and welcome the pressure!” Chapman says.

Wisconsin football fans are huge on ‘building a fence around the state’ and keeping homegrown talent in the state. They are often critical of the coaching staff if they can’t keep them home. Sadly, they will also be critical of the kid for choosing to play outside of the state. So when a player like JJ Chapman is coming up through the ranks in the state, there has to be some amount of pressure to go to Wisconsin when the time comes to make a decision.

“It’s early in my recruitment. I still have a long road ahead of me. I appreciate every opportunity that has been afforded to me. When it’s time to make a decision, I am confident that I will make the one that is best for me and my continued growth, both educationally and athletically.’

As an in-state kid, Chapman grew up a Wisconsin football fan. “From the hype of the 5th quarter or cheering the team on from my living room, to potentially playing on the field one day at Camp Randall is surreal.”

But we’ve seen before that just because a player grew up cheering for the Badgers, it doesn’t necessarily mean that’s where they’ll chose to play. So where does Wisconsin fall on his list?

“Wisconsin is high on my radar! Let’s just say, I made the Wisconsin camp a top priority.”

But there is plenty of competition already. Chapman has heard from plenty of other programs, including Miami (FL).

“I have developed some close relationships with coaches from Miami, Toledo, Northwestern, and Purdue. ”

Before he can start thinking about college football, Chapman needs to play a snap of high school football. Despite having no varsity experience, the 2028 QB has some big plans heading into his prep career.

“My goal is to win the starting spot on varsity, further develop relationships with my teammates, and help get our team where they deserve to be,” he said.  “I wouldn’t mind breaking a few records in the process either.”

It’s very early in his recruitment, but Wisconsin football fans will want to keep their eye on JJ Chapman over the next few years.
