Report: Badgers to Host Multi-Year ACC Starting QB on Visit

Wisconsin has another big QB on campus this weekend.

Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin football program will host a multi-year ACC starting quarterback on campus for a visit this weekend.

It was initially reported by Pete Thamel, senior college football writer for ESPN, and later confirmed that the Badgers will host former Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke.

A former four-star recruit from Connecticut, Van Dyke has spent the last four seasons with the Hurricanes. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound signal caller was considered the No. 7 pro-style quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class — and still has one year of eligibility remaining.

The Wisconsin football coaching staff is starting to get aggressive in the transfer portal, already hosting Toledo quarterback DeQuan Finn and now Miami’s Tyler Van Dyke. Word on the street is there will also be another notable transfer QB on campus later this week.

Van Dyke has appeared in 32 career games, starting 28, completing 63.7% of his passes for 7,469 yards, 54 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. The former Suffield Academy standout finished his Miami career sixth all-time for the program in passing yards and fourth in touchdown passes.

In 2023, Van Dyke threw for 2,703 yards on a career-high 65.8% completion percentage with 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. According to Pro Football Focus, Van Dyke finished this past season with an 83.7 grade (high quality) and was credited with 23 big-time throws.

For reference, Wisconsin football quarterbacks combined for just 12 big-time throws in 2023. Van Dyke also got the ball out of his hand in 2.64 seconds on average, which is quicker than both Tanner Mordecai (3.06) and Braedyn Locke (2.74) for whatever that’s worth.

It’s abundantly clear that the Wisconsin Badgers staff intends to bring in an experienced quarterback to lead the offense next season. That will allow its young group of signal callers like Locke, Nick Evers, Cole LaCrue, and Mabrey Mettauer more time to develop.
