The Wisconsin football program completed its third round of official visits over the weekend, and in-state kicker/punter Erik Schmidt was in attendance on a return trip to Madison.

“Everything about the visit was amazing,” Schmidt told Badgernotes. “I enjoyed all the meals, games, and spent a lot of time with the players. I loved seeing the campus in the summer.”

According to Kohl’s Kicking, the Marquette High School standout is rated as the nation’s No. 1 punter and No. 8 kicker.

Schmidt was a part of a smaller list of visitors this past weekend, so he had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with the staff and build on their already-established relationship.

“I have a great relationship with the staff there. All the coaches are great and everybody was welcoming. I spent a lot of time with the staff this weekend, which allowed me to get closer with them.”

What has been the main pitch from the staff thus far?

“The coach’s message is simply that they want me to be a Badger. They are looking for an elite specialist who is from Wisconsin.”

UW was the first school to extend a preferred walk-on offer to Schmidt in 2023. Since then, he’s picked up a PWO offer from Michigan and full scholarships from Notre Dame, Missouri, and Boston College. He will make a few more official visits before he makes his decision, but that is expected to come in the near future.

“I plan to commit by the end of the summer,” Schmidt told Badgernotes.
The Marquette High School standout will be a name to watch going forward as a decision looms prior to his senior year. What will be the most important thing for him when he makes that decision?

“The most important thing I look for is a place where I’ll play and can develop as a player.”

The Wisconsin football program currently holds 19 commitments in the 2025 cycle, and the class ranks No. 12 in the country.
