A Pair of Wisconsin Football Players Appear in Top 100 Rankings
Two Wisconsin football standouts have been named to 247Sports’ top 100 player rankings.
The beginning of college football season brings optimism to many teams and fans throughout the country. It is no different for the Wisconsin football team. They are ranked in the top-25 of both the Coaches Poll and the AP Poll. They have a plethora of players named to watch lists for the various awards in college football.
Blake Brockermeyer, a writer for 247Sports, released his top 100 college football players in 2023. Keep in mind this list includes all of college football. As you’d imagine, there are plenty of players on this list from all the big-time programs in the SEC, Ohio State, and Michigan. But two Badgers found their way onto this list.
The Top Wisconsin Football Player on the List is No Surprise
The first and highest-ranked Wisconsin football player on the list is — you guessed it — Braelon Allen.
He came into the rankings at no. 25. He is the third-highest-ranked runningback, behind Michigan’s Blake Corum (no. 8) and Ole Miss’ Quinshon Judkins (no. 12). He is also the sixth-highest player in the Big Ten and the top in the Big Ten West division.
Here’s what Brockmeyer had to say about the Badgers’ standout running back.
Considered by many to be one of the top running backs in all of football, Allen is primed to break out in his third and, most likely, final year in Madison. Allen has 2,510 career rushing yards with 23 touchdowns and an average of 6.0 yards per carry. He looks to add to those numbers this season in what could be a breakout year with the Phil Longo Air Raid coming to Madison.
The Second Wisconsin Football Player Represents O-Line U
The other Wisconsin football player to appear on the list is offensive lineman Jack Nelson.
The redshirt junior appears at no. 85 in the rankings. He is the 12th-ranked offensive tackle. Brockmeyer says of Nelson:
“A versatile and nasty player who will benefit from a more-balanced system. Has excellent length. Expect a big year.”
Nelson is getting plenty of preseason praise. He was named to PFF’s All-Big Ten Team along with Allen. ProFootball Network ranked him as the ninth-ranked offensive tackle for the 2024 NFL Draft.
All indications are that Nelson could be the next Wisconsin Badgers offensive lineman drafted into the NFL. And with a solid season could find his way into being a first or second-day draft pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
