Badgers Make Appearance in the Preseason Top-25 Coaches Poll
The Wisconsin Badgers find themselves in the top-25 of the preseason coaches poll for the seventh-consecutive season.
The Wisconsin football team is almost a week into camp, and we are inching closer and closer to the start of the regular season. One indicator that Week 1 is right around the corner is the release of the preseason A.P. and coaches poll.
As fans, we know not to take too much stock in preseason polls. But you can’t help but get a little excited about the direction of this team. After the underwhelming 2022 season, many were not sure the Badgers would even make it into either of the preseason top-25 polls.
The coaches’ preseason top-25 poll dropped today, and your Wisconsin Badgers made the list.

Wisconsin football will start the season off ranked 21st in the top-25 poll submitted by coaches. No. 21 is the lowest the Badgers have been ranked in this preseason poll since the 2016 season when they were unranked. They ultimately finished that season 11-3, losing to Penn State in the Big Ten Championship. They did, however, go one to defeat P.J. Fleck and Western Michigan in the Cotton Bowl.

However, being ranked as low as 21 doesn’t make me concerned about this team. I think a lot of the coaches that voted want to see what Fickell can do in a Power 5 conference. The Big Ten is a lot different than AAC, where he dominated with Cincinnati. The roster he inherited and the turnover during the offseason will make this season more challenging to start.
The Wisconsin football team received 309 points from the voting process. They are the fourth-highest-ranked team in the Big Ten. However, they are the highest (and only) ranked team from the West division. It isn’t too surprising that Michigan (2), Ohio State (4), and Penn State (7) are the three teams ahead of Wisconsin. All offseason pundits have been ranking the teams in the conference and one through four are always the same.
Oklahoma (19) and North Carolina (20) just edged the Badgers out, receiving 320 and 315 points, respectively.
Iowa was the first team out, receiving 169 points. Texas A&M came in just ahead of them at No. 25 with 196 points. Additionally, Minnesota (16), Maryland (10), and Illinois (7), also received votes.
