Wisconsin Basketball Hosts Highly Touted Transfer Wing on Visit
Madison, Wis. — Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball program hosted one of the most dynamic wings in the transfer portal for a visit to Madison this past weekend.
On Monday, Max Feldman of MadeHoops reported that Wisconsin had former St. Johns standout AJ Storr on campus.
Oklahoma State, Memphis, Arizona State, Florida, BYU, Georgia, Cincinnati, Butler, Miami, DePaul, LSU, Indiana, Michigan, UConn, Georgetown, Auburn, Gonzaga, Creighton, Xavier, and several other schools are also in the mix.
The 6-foot-6, 200-pound wing was a member of the Big East All-Freshman team after averaging 8.8 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.9 assists on an impressive shooting 40.4% from beyond the arc in just over 21 minutes per game for the Red Storm.
Storr started 17 of the 33 games he appeared in for St. John’s during his freshman season and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
What AJ Storr Would Mean for Wisconsin Basketball
I’m hearing that the Wisconsin basketball program is a sneaky player in AJ Storr’s recruitment.
The former four-star recruit is coming off an impressive season, where he finished with a 104.8 ORTG and a 1.4 PRPG, per Barttorvik, which would have been sixth on the Badgers this past season.
According to HoopMath, Storr took 34.2% of his shots at the rim and 38.7% from beyond the arc last season. He’d make a noticeable impact for the Badgers in transition, where he averages 1.31 points per possession, ranking in the 87th percentile.
One thing is clear: Greg Gard is aggressively pursuing talent upgrades for this roster. Storr would be an immediate starter on the wing, presumably shifting Max Klesmit to the bench (what a luxury that would be).
He’s a lanky wing with above-average athleticism that can finish well around the rim. Storr can also step out and knockdown three’s at an impressive clip, plus get you a bucket playing iso-ball when the shot clock is winding down.
Wings standing at 6-foot-6 that can score from all three levels don’t exactly grow on trees, so Wisconsin basketball getting a visit is significant.
I’m working on getting more information, but this is something worth monitoring closely. Coach Gard and the Badgers are expected to take at least one more transfer this offseason, possibly even two.
