Source: Wisconsin Basketball Showing Interest in Mountain West Transfer

Madison, Wis. —  According to a source, Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball program recently checked the availability of a combo guard out of the Mountain West that entered the transfer portal. 

My source indicated Wisconsin was among a long list of suitors that reached out to Wyoming guard Noah Reynolds last week, who is among the more intriguing options in the transfer portal.

If this is true (and I believe it is), Jon McNamara of BadgerBlitz.com deserves ALL the credit for this one because he had this story MONTHS AGO.

Reynolds, a 6-foot-3 lefty guard, averaged 14.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on 48.1% shooting from the field in 25 minutes per game.

The Illinois native only appeared in 19 games for the Cowboys in 2022-23 because he was “shut down” for health reasons in February after suffering his third concussion in six months during a loss at San Jose State.

“Noah is a guy that doesn’t come from much,” Wyoming coach Jeff Linder said. “He’s had to earn everything he’s gotten. Those are the types of guys I can coach. Those guys have a chip on their shoulder, they’ve got some fight in them, and they love to play.”

Reynolds started 10 of the 42 games he appeared in for the Cowboys during his career and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Why Noah Reynolds Makes Sense for Wisconsin Basketball 

Wisconsin basketball needs another scoring option like human beings need oxygen, hence why the coaching staff is casting a wide net in search of backcourt additions this offseason.

The Badgers struggled offensively in 2022-23 following the early departure of Big Ten Player of the Year Johnny Davis to the NBA. However, they did have a balanced attack that featured four players that reached double figures in scoring.

Noah Reynolds’ 99.8 ORTG is a bit concerning, but he makes all the sense in the world for Wisconsin as a scoring guard with size and playmaking ability. He is also a solid shooter and, more importantly, a proven scorer.

His potential addition would give UW two things they desperately need: another scoring option off the bench, and some much-needed depth, which plagued the Badgers this past season. Let’s hope this one has some traction.

Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball coaching staff know what their roster needs and are pursuing all avenues to fix the glaring hole.
