Western Carolina transfer LB Antarron Turner commits to Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Badgers football team has picked up a linebacker from Western Carolina via the transfer portal.
The Wisconsin football program has added a much-needed piece to its linebacker room from the transfer portal.
Antarron Turner, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker from Western Carolina, committed to the Badgers shortly after taking an official visit to Madison.
Turner, a native of Ocala, Florida, brings 572 snaps worth of experience at the FCS level to the Badgers defense.
Across three seasons with the Catamounts, Turner appeared in 27 games. As a redshirt sophomore., Turner recorded 61 total tackles, 29 stops, 15 pressures, 6.5 TFLs, three sacks, and two pass breakups.
According to Pro Football Focus, Turner posted a 64.0 grade as a pass-rusher and a 59.0 overall defensive grade during the 2024 season.
After losing both starting inside linebackers from last season to graduation, Wisconsin has made adding depth to the position a priority, and Turner fits the bill. His ability to read plays and maintain gap integrity made him a natural fit for the defense Luke Fickell wants to run.
Turner, who also visited UConn and received interest from West Virginia, Kansas, and Toledo during his transfer process, ultimately chose the Badgers, citing their reputation for developing NFL-caliber linebackers.
Turner now steps into an inside linebacker room that includes projected starters Christian Alliegro and Tackett Curtis, along with returning depth options like Tyler Jansey, Landon Gauthier, and incoming freshmen Mason Posa and Cooper Catalano from the 2025 class.
With two years of eligibility remaining, Turner will provide depth and compete for snaps in a linebacker corps that will be looking to fill some significant voids heading into 2025 under Mike Tressel.
The Badgers staff has now added six defensive players from the transfer portal.
