Wisconsin football offers, lands visit from Maryland transfer QB Billy Edwards Jr.
The Wisconsin Badgers will host a transfer quarterback with starting experience in the Big Ten on a visit this weekend.
The Wisconsin Badgers football program is ramping up its efforts in the transfer portal as it starts to zero in on finding a starting caliber quarterback.
Chris Hummer of 247Sports reports that Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. is set to visit Wisconsin. BadgerNotes has confirmed the visit and learned that the Badgers are considered a strong contender for his services, even with an early prediction from Steve Wiltfong that Edwards will land at Michigan.
Edwards is the latest high-profile quarterback linked to Wisconsin, joining Fernando Mendoza from Cal and Danny O’Neil from San Diego State as the Badgers staff works to reshape their suddenly depleted quarterback room.
The 6-foot-4 quarterback from Springfield, VA, will be on campus this weekend for his official visit. A source shared that Edwards, a former three-star recruit, has already received a scholarship offer from Wisconsin.
Edwards, who began his career at Wake Forest in 2021 before transferring to Maryland, entered the portal after playing 26 games over three seasons with the Terrapins. He has one year of eligibility remaining at his next stop.
The redshirt junior delivered a strong 2024 campaign as the Terrapins starting quarterback despite the team finishing 4-8. He completed 65% of his passes for 2,881 yards on 6.7 yards per attempt, with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions despite operating behind a poor offensive line. On the ground, Edwards added 148 yards and five more scores.
According to Pro Football Focus, Edwards earned a 79.6 offensive grade and a 75.4 passing grade, ranking 36th nationally among Power 4 quarterbacks and 10th in the Big Ten. Edwards was also credited with 21 big-time throws and 11 turnover-worthy plays, per their database.
