Wisconsin football lands Western Michigan transfer DL Corey Walker
Former Western Michigan defensive lineman Corey Walker has committed to the Wisconsin Badgers football program after an official visit.
Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers added another transfer at a major position of need on Monday.
The Badgers coaching staff continued adding depth to its defensive line through the transfer portal, landing a commitment from former Western Michigan defensive lineman Corey Walker after a visit.
"New Home….❤️❤️❤️🚶🏾🚶🏾," Walker wrote in an Instagram post.
Walker started in 11 games for the Broncos in 2024, recording 38 tackles, 25 pressures, 6.5 TFLs, and 5.5 sacks in 478 snaps. While his stat line was impressive, Walker's impact extended well beyond the numbers for coach Lance Taylor.
The 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive lineman proved to be a physical and disruptive piece at Western Michigan, excelling as a space-eater and showing enough athleticism to disrupt opposing backfields in the MAC.
During his career, the Illinois native has appeared in 32 games and registered 70 tackles, 51 pressures, 15 TFLs, nine pass deflections, and eight sacks.
According to Pro Football Focus, Walker finished with a 73.6 overall defensive grade, the fourth-best among Broncos defenders. He also earned a 74.9 grade as a run defender and a 71.2 as a pass rusher.
PFF stable metrics show that Walker ranked in the 63rd percentile for pass-rushing in true pass-rush situations and posted a win rate in the 54th percentile. Additionally, Walker’s run defense grade places him in the 69th percentile.
Walker, a three-star prospect in the 2021 class, initially committed to Western Michigan out of high school over an offer from the Illinois State Redbirds.
For the Badgers, Walker's commitment addresses a significant need along the defensive front. With departures like James Thompson Jr. and Curt Neal thinning the depth chart, Walker provides immediate help in the trenches. His ability to push the pocket, and get after the opposing quarterback fits the physical identity Wisconsin football needs to re-establish in 2025 under Mike Tressel.
E.J. Whitlow’s room is also set to bring back Dillan Johnson, Brandon Lane, and Jamel Howard. Ben Barten, who played meaningful snaps this past season, also has the option to return.
Walker joins Preston Petersen (Tulane), Tanner Koziol (Ball State), and Mason Reiger (Louisville) as the Badgers transfer portal additions thus far.
