Wisconsin football lands San Diego State transfer QB Danny O’Neil
Former San Diego State quarterback Danny O’Neil has committed to the Wisconsin Badgers football program.
The University of Wisconsin football team has officially made its first move in the transfer portal to address the quarterback position.
The Badgers have secured a commitment from former San Diego State quarterback Danny O’Neil, adding a promising young signal-caller to a room desperate for reinforcements after an offseason full of turnover.
O’Neil, a 6-foot, 195-pound quarterback from Indianapolis, started 11 games as a true freshman for the Aztecs in 2024. Despite San Diego State finishing 3-8 in his starts, O’Neil flashed his potential by completing 63.3% of his passes for 2,181 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also ran for 93 yards on the ground and added another score.
O'neil opened the season with a streak of 127 consecutive pass attempts without throwing an interception, demonstrating sound decision-making and accuracy as a first-year starter for Sean Lewis.
According to Pro Football Focus data, O’Neil graded out as a 72.4 on offense and 75.0 as a passer, with 12 big-time throws and only nine turnover-worthy plays credited to him on the year.
