2027 QB Trae Taylor ‘glad’ he visited Wisconsin football, plans return
The Wisconsin Badgers coaching staff made an impression on one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 class on his recruiting visit to Madison.
Carmel Catholic (Ill.) quarterback Trae Taylor, one of the top 2027 prospects in the nation, wrapped up a visit with Wisconsin football that helped reshape his view of the Badgers program.
Taylor, who holds over 30 scholarship offers from schools like Michigan, Georgia, Oregon, LSU, Tennessee, and Ohio State, received his offer from Wisconsin quarterback coach Kenny Guiton on January 10 and decided to make the trip to Madison after initial hesitations.
“Had no intentions of ever going back to Badger football,” Taylor shared after his visit to Wisconsin. “Dad advised me to go because of the new staff.
“I’m glad I went, as this experience was great. If anything, I started great new relationships. Was so good I’ll make a trip in the spring. Learned something today.”
This marked Taylor’s third interaction with the program, following a camp and gameday visit when the Badgers played the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2023.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound quarterback is coming off a sophomore season where he threw for 3,061 yards, 20 touchdowns, and completed 69% of his passes. Taylor also showcased his athleticism with 437 rushing yards and five touchdowns, traits Wisconsin’s staff believes align perfectly with their evolving offensive system under coordinator Jeff Grimes.
"I think they've got to be able to provide some sort of athleticism. And I think in two ways: one, they have to have the ability to escape and get out of trouble when you're throwing the football," said Grimes. "Then I'd like for them to present some level of run threat to the defense. How much depends on a number of other factors. I look at it on a sliding scale.
