Wisconsin Football commit Wynn Stang
Mukwonago's Wynn Stang (21) takes a handoff from quarterback Evan Herbig (10) during the game at home against Muskego on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022.

Madison, Wis. – The Wisconsin football program has landed the in-state Gatorade Player of the Year. Mukwonago High School running back Wynn Stang took to Twitter to announce he would stay home.

Stang will join the Badgers as a preferred walk-on. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound tailback was extended the PWO offer in December.

According to 247Sports, Stang is a two-star prospect and the No. 16 ranked player in the state. The Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year did not receive any scholarship offers, but was given a preferred walk-on offer from Purdue. However, the Wisconsin native opted to stay in the state.

Stang led the Mukwonago Indians to the Wisconsin Division 1 State Championship while rushing for 2,756 yards and 42 touchdowns last season. In the postseason, Stang notched 846 yards and 13 scores in just four games.

The standout from Mukwonago was a First Team All-State selection, the MaxPreps Player of the Year, and the Elroy Hirsch Award recipient as Wisconsin’s top senior running back.

Wisconsin Football PWO Scouting Report

Although Stang was an unheralded prospect in the 2023 class, he has some upside with his athleticism, speed, and vision.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound tailback has the speed to shoot through gaps and the acceleration to outrun opposing defenders. Stang is also a threat in the open field, as he has the ability to stop on a dime and make men miss.

Stang has some unique abilities that could benefit the Badgers. There’s some untapped potential in his game that intrigues me personally.

Wisconsin has a storied tradition of walk-ons, and Stang could be the next in that bunch. Keep an eye on the exciting young prospect as he heads to Madison.
