Former Wisconsin football head coach Paul Chryst was fired after a disappointing 2-3 start to the 2022 season, and it’s been radio silence on what his next career move might be ever since.

Despite this unexpected setback, Chryst took his time to reset and has found a new opportunity, joining the Texas Longhorns as an offensive analyst for the 2023 season, according to a report from Jon McNamara

The move to Texas is intriguing for Chryst, who will work alongside head coach Steve Sarkisian, a highly respected offensive coach with a track record of success. Together, the two coaches have the potential to continue building on the success of last season’s 8-5 campaign and an offensive unit that scored 34.5 points per game (25th in the country).

Thoughts on Former Wisconsin Football Head Coach Paul Chryst

For Paul Chryst, the move to Texas represents a chance to rebuild his reputation and prove that he still has what it takes to succeed and adapt/learn at the highest level of college football.

Coach Dad put together an impressive record of 67-26, 43-18 Big Ten while coaching the Wisconsin football program from 2015-22. During that time, he won three Big Ten West titles (2016, 2017, 2019) and was a 2x Big Ten Coach of the Year (2016, 2017). Chryst also enjoyed tremendous post-season success, compiling a 6-1 bowl record and two NY6 victories.

With the Longhorns, Chryst will have the opportunity to work with a talented roster of players, including quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning. Sarkisian has already made it clear that he plans to build the offense around his signal callers’ strengths, and Chryst’s expertise working with quarterbacks could be instrumental in helping the young players reach their full potential.

Overall, the addition of Paul Chryst to the Texas coaching staff is a significant development for a program that has struggled to get over the hump in recent years. It will be fascinating to see how he and Sarkisian work together to create a winning formula in Austin.
