Wisconsin Badgers Basketball vs. Stanford

The first-ever Brew City Battle took place tonight as the Wisconsin Badgers took on Stanford from American Family Field, home of the Milwaukee Brewers. In what was a very cool event, the Badgers came away with the win 60-50.

Suffocating defense

With the lack of consistent offensive weapons for the Badgers this year. Wisconsin must make up for it with great defense. The first half was absolutely smothering from Wisconsin’s defense. Forcing 12 turnovers in just the first half which led to 18 points. Stanford scored 6 points in the final 10:50 of the half.

It helped that the refs allowed for some real physical play on that end. At times this offense may really struggle to score, so you must have a defense that can keep you in the game. It looks like Wisconsin has that this season. Stanford finished with 16 turnovers and went just 1-16 from three.

Exceeding Expectations

Just like last year, this Badger group is going to surprise a lot of people. Picked to finish 10th in the Big Ten is disrespectful, and it looks to have lit a fire in this group. Not saying they will finish with a share of the Big Ten Title like last season, however, 10th place would be underachieving for this group. I really like how this team has started this season. Should be a gritty group, and I’m excited to see the continued growth and how they fair once Big Ten play starts.

3-Point Shooting

Badger fans, prepare for this to be a topic of discussion after almost every game this season. Whether it be good or bad, this will be a key to the success of this team. We mentioned after the last game how the Badgers were dead last in the Big Ten when it came to three-point percentage last season.  In the season opener, Wisconsin shot the ball extremely well from behind the arch. Tonight, when they struggled shooting they relied on their defense. Nice to see that this team is able to win games in different ways early on this season.
