MADISON, Wis. — Less than a week after signing with the Wisconsin men’s basketball program, Wyoming transfer guard Noah Reynolds has reopened his recruitment and de-committed from Greg Gard and the Badgers.

The Peoria, Illinois native took to Twitter to announce his de-commitment on Wednesday evening, stating, “After consulting with friends and family, I have decided that it is no longer in my best interest to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Thank you to Coach Gard and the rest of the staff but I will be reopening my recruitment.”

Reynolds, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound, lefty combo guard, averaged 14.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on 48.1% shooting from the field in 25 minutes per game this past season for the Cowboys.

Wisconsin men’s basketball wanted a scoring guard with size and playmaking ability to spell Hepburn and the other guards without sacrificing offense. Now, they’re heading back into the portal to find another.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Reynolds shooting, slashing, and ability to play out the pick & roll will be an asset wherever he lands.

What This Means for Wisconsin Men’s Basketball

This one is a bit confusing. Given the addition of St. Johns transfer AJ Storr, Noah Reynolds presumably was looking at a lesser role than initially anticipated. He’ll now explore more significant opportunities that might be available since he re-entered the portal.

Wisconsin men’s basketball thought they were getting an experienced scoring option off the bench and some much-needed depth, which everyone knows plagued the Badgers this past season. Everything I’ve heard suggests UW will add a big if the right fit presents itself, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Badgers try and find another guard option to push Kamari McGee and Isaac Lindsey. The more depth in the backcourt, the better.

His de-commitment is unfortunate because Reynolds would have been a big part of the team next season, but there is plenty of time to rectify this unforeseen departure.
