Madison, Wis. – The Wisconsin football program received more good news on the recruiting front Monday evening when the Badgers learned they were adding another talented pass catcher to an already impressive stable.

After picking up an offer in January and visiting Madison this recently, UW received a verbal commitment from three-star wide receiver Kyan Berry-Johnson out of Bolingbrook, Illinois.

According to the 247Sports composite, Berry-Johnson is the No. 810 player in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 105 WR in the country, and the No. 17 player in Illinois.

Assistant coach Mike Brown prioritized the 5-foot-10, 160-pound pass-catcher who chose UW over offers from Ball State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Houston, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Kent State, Liberty, Marshall, Syracuse, Wyoming, plus several others. He also generated interest from multiple Big Ten schools.

Scouting Report

Kyan Berry-Johnson, a standout at Bolingbrook High School in Illinois, is your quintessential slot-wide receiver and route-running technician.

He has good speed and impressive hands but makes his living as a yards-after-catch (YAC) monster. The biggest thing that stands out is his elusiveness and ability to change direction + make people miss.

The three-star recruit might only stand at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds, but Berry-Johnson’s shown on film that he can also elevate and make a contested catch.

Given Phil Longo’s extensive use of 11 personnel and deep WR rotations, finding someone of Berry-Johnson’s skill set makes sense for the Wisconsin football program.

He might need some time to develop physically and adjust to the speed of college football, but he could definitely become a playmaker for the Badgers down the road.

The Impact of Kyan Berry-Johnson’s Addition to the 2024 Wisconsin Football Recruiting Class

Kyan Berry-Johnson is commitment No. 7 for the Wisconsin football program in the 2024 recruiting cycle, joining Mabrey Mettauer, Grant Stec, Robert Booker, Derek Jensen, Thomas Heiberger, and Landon Gauthier.

With his addition, UW now has the No. 20 recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports.
