Wisconsin Basketball News: Davis Goes Portaling, Transfer Visits Campus, More

It’s been a busy week for the Wisconsin basketball program, ladies and gents, but fear not because BadgerNotes can help get you back up to speed with a roundup of some important news you may have missed.

Wisconsin Badgers Host Mountain West Combo Guard on Visit

BadgerNotes initially reported that the Wisconsin basketball program was interested in Wyoming transfer guard Noah Reynolds. 

Now, Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is taking it a step further, reporting that the Badgers hosted the 6-foot-3 lefty on a visit before UW left for Las Vegas. 

Reynolds, a talented combo guard with 42 games of experience, averaged 14.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on 48.1% shooting from the field this past season in 25 minutes per game.

As a scoring guard with size and playmaking ability, Reynolds would make sense for Wisconsin. He is also a solid shooter and, more importantly, would give the Badgers another scoring option off the bench and some much-needed depth. 

The Illinois native has two years of eligibility remaining, and the word on the street is that Reynolds’ joining the Badgers is likely.

Wisconsin Basketball Loses Guard to the Transfer Portal 

According to a report from Verbal Commits, Wisconsin basketball junior guard Jordan Davis has entered the transfer portal.

Davis played three seasons for the Badgers and put together his best year for UW in 2022-23, averaging 5.1 points and 3.5 rebounds on 30% shooting from beyond the arc in 20.5 minutes per game. 

Per Barttorvik, Davis finished with a 106.2 ORTG and a 1.0 PRPG this past season, which was good for sixth on the team.

The 6-foot-4 guard saw a significant uptick in minutes as a junior and even began the season in the starting lineup for the Wisconsin basketball program but would eventually get replaced by Big Ten All-Freshman selection Connor Essegian in January.

Davis, a La Crosse, Wisconsin, native, committed to UW alongside his twin brother, Johnny, as part of a five-man recruiting class in 2020 that included Ben Carlson, Steven Crowl, and Lorne Bowman.

The crown jewel of the 2023 Wisconsin basketball recruiting class, Gus Yalden made a name for himself during his senior year at La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana — a member of the NIBC, where he routinely faces some of the toughest competition in the country.

Yalden, a four-star top 100 prospect in the 2023 class, earned Second Team All-NIBC Conference honors after averaging 14.1 points (7th most in the league) and 5.6 rebounds on an efficient 53.2% from the field.

“If players were ranked on performance, I should be top 50 – all I do is improve, and my stats reflect it,” Yalden told BadgerNotes. “I don’t meet the eye test, but that shouldn’t distract evaluators from watching me outwork and outperform the dudes they tapped years ago as top 50.”

Between Yalden’s skillset and fiery competitive spirit, joining a program known for its gritty style of play and developing big men made signing with the Wisconsin basketball program a no-brainer.

His fit at UW and, more specifically, in Greg Gard’s offensive system should be seamless.
